ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - The Senate, the Upper House of Parliament, has approved the Free and Compulsory Education Amendment Bill 2026, introducing major changes to the national school curriculum, including making computer science and coding mandatory subjects.
According to the amendment, programming education will now be legally required for all students from elementary to high school level, marking a significant shift toward digital learning in the country’s education system.

The bill amends the Right to Free and Compulsory Education Act 2012, formally integrating computer science and coding into core academic subjects across schools nationwide.
Officials said the move aims to prepare students for the global job market and the demands of the modern technology-driven era, ensuring they gain essential digital skills from an early stage.
The bill emphasizes that basic literacy alone is no longer sufficient, and every student will now be required to learn computer programming as part of their education.
The amended law will come into immediate effect following its approval by the Senate.
