Summary Punjab government orders strict accountability in Pera, body cameras, personnel scrutiny and stronger enforcement against corruption and misconduct.

LAHORE (Dunya News) - The Punjab Enforcement and Regulatory Authority is facing stricter accountability measures against officials accused of illegal activities and misconduct.

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz warned that officials involved in unlawful actions could face up to three years imprisonment instead of short-term detention, adding that records of all personnel would be reviewed.

She directed authorities to install body cameras on Pera personnel by June 30 and ordered scrutiny of 4,000 officers and officials within the force.

Chairing the fourth meeting of the Pera force, the chief minister also instructed officials to upgrade the organisation’s internal intelligence and whistleblower systems and take exemplary action against those damaging its reputation.

The meeting was informed that Pera has obtained ISO certification and currently has over 4,700 filled positions out of a total strength of 8,000 personnel. Recruitment has been completed through the Punjab Public Service Commission.

Officials said training for assistant directors under the Punjab Administrative Service will begin from June 1, while enforcement and investigation officers will receive training at Rescue 1122 and the Police Training College Chung.

The meeting was told that over 7,000 personnel would be recruited by the end of June and that 133 out of 155 enforcement stations are already operational.

Authorities also briefed the meeting on operations against hoarding and profiteering, stating that 11 FIRs had been registered, fines exceeding Rs20 million imposed, and 6,557 people arrested.

In anti-encroachment operations, more than 9,000 kanals of land were recovered, while over 262,000 raids were conducted across the province.

Officials further said a central Pera 360 dashboard is being developed by integrating multiple software systems, with all challans to be digitised. The conviction rate currently stands at 97 percent.

The chief minister also approved the proposal to establish a dedicated Pera training academy in either Kallar Kahar, Murree or Kotli Sattian within one year.

Maryam Nawaz raised concerns over discipline and credibility within the force, stating that strict action would be taken against any official involved in corruption or abuse of authority. She was informed that 1,356 inquiries had been initiated for disciplinary violations, 304 punishments awarded and seven officials dismissed.
