Summary Punjab approves Gujranwala Mass Transit System design under CM Maryam Nawaz, featuring 31.5km route, 24 stations, tunnels, and modern infrastructure to improve urban transport.

LAHORE (Dunya News) - A key meeting chaired by Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz in Lahore approved the design of the Gujranwala Mass Transit System, with a detailed briefing given on various aspects of the project.

The chief minister directed that every area of Gujranwala be connected to the metro system through feeder buses to ensure convenient and integrated public transport facilities for citizens.

She also approved the inclusion of two tunnel sections in the project to reduce traffic pressure, along with a principled approval for 17 to 19 kilometers of underground track.

Under the project, a 31.5-kilometer transit system will be constructed from Ghakhar to Aimanabad, featuring 24 stations, including two underground stations.

Depots will be established in Garjakh, Chan Da Qila, and Gondlanwala.

Officials said the system will have the capacity to facilitate 2.6 million passengers, while solar systems will be installed at each station and depot. In addition, a 62-kilometer drainage system and a modern command and control center will also be developed alongside the project.

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz said the completion of the project would transform the transport culture of Gujranwala and provide citizens with a modern and high-quality travel system.
