UN delegation meets CJP Afridi to discuss judicial reforms

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - Chief Justice of Pakistan Yahya Afridi held an important meeting with the United Nations (UN) delegation to discuss judicial reforms and priorities within Pakistan’s justice system.
The chief justice met with UN Resident Coordinator Mohammed Yahya and a delegation that included representatives from UNDP, UN Women, UNICEF, UNODC and UNFPA.
During the meeting, participants held detailed discussions on reform priorities aimed at strengthening Pakistan’s justice system.
According to a statement issued by the Supreme Court, the chief justice briefed the delegation on initiatives designed to improve access to justice and enhance judicial efficiency.
He emphasized the need for a citizen-friendly, inclusive and effective justice system.
The chief justice highlighted the close link between the justice system, governance and accountability, noting that a strong judiciary forms the foundation of sustainable development and democratic governance.

He also appreciated the constructive role played by United Nations agencies in Pakistan.
CJP Yahya Afridi commended efforts related to child-sensitive justice and institutional capacity building.
The meeting also explored prospects for future cooperation between the judiciary and the United Nations.
Both sides agreed to collaborate on technical assistance, judicial training and data-driven reforms.
Discussions further covered policy support and the exchange of global best practices.
The participants stressed the importance of structured engagement and sustained partnership to advance judicial reforms in Pakistan.
