KARACHI (Dunya News) – Justice Agha Faisal has been appointed as the head of judicial commission to conduct an inquiry into the Karachi’s Gul Plaza fire.
Sindh High Court chief justice on Wednesday nominated Justice Agha Faisal to head the judicial commission.
According to an official letter sent by the Registrar of the Sindh High Court to the provincial Home Department, the chief justice has formally nominated Justice Agha Faisal to oversee the judicial inquiry into the incident.
A single-member judicial commission comprising Justice Agha Faisal will investigate the circumstances surrounding the Gul Plaza incident and determine the causes of the fire.
The letter further stated that the tenure and terms of reference of the judicial commission will be notified separately by the Sindh government.
MQM renews demand for judicial commission on Gul Plaza fire
Earlier, the Sindh government had announced a judicial commission to investigate the deadly Gul Plaza fire that claimed 79 lives.
The provincial administration wrote a letter to the Chief Justice of the Sindh High Court (SHC) requesting a probe into the incident.
Following the incident, the Sindh Cabinet formed a committee to examine the circumstances surrounding the fire.
At the time of the blaze, between 2,000 and 2,500 people were reportedly inside the building.
