Deputy Chairman NAB said that anti-graft watchdog achieved a record-breaking recovery of Rs6.213 trillion.
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) claimed that the watchdog recovered more than Rs 6 trillion during the year 2025.
Deputy Chairman NAB, Sohail Nasir, while briefing the media on NAB’s performance, said that anti-graft watchdog achieved a record-breaking recovery of Rs6.213 trillion, the highest annual figure since the Bureau’s inception in 1999.
He revealed that the Kohistan scandal has expanded to Rs 40 billion, out of which Rs 6 billion has already been recovered. He added that in the Kohistan scandal, huge sums of money were hidden inside walls and paint containers.
Director General (Operations) NAB said that Rs 26 billion linked to the Kohistan scandal has been deposited into the national exchequer. He added that allegations of harassment by NAB have now been eliminated, allowing the bureaucracy to make decisions independently. He warned that anyone leveling false allegations would now face punishment.
The DG Operations further said that complainants’ identities are kept confidential upon receiving complaints. He added that a special mechanism has been introduced for businessmen, members of parliament, and the bureaucracy, and in some cases complaints are forwarded directly to the relevant institutions.
DG Operations NAB Abdul Majeed Olakh said that media trials based solely on complaints have been discontinued. He added that facilitation cells under the respective assembly speakers have been established for complaints against parliamentarians. For transparency, the first response comes from the speaker, though NAB is not bound to accept it as final.
