CM Maryam announces Basant holiday across Punjab

LAHORE (Dunya News) - Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz on Sunday announced extended weekly holidays for the people of the province, giving residents an opportunity to enjoy a long break to celebrate Basant.
In a statement shared on social media platform X, the chief minister said that people across Punjab would be able to benefit from extended holidays in the coming days.
She explained that February 5 will be observed as Kashmir Day, followed by a provincial holiday on February 6 on account of Basant.
The holidays will then continue with the regular Saturday and Sunday weekend.
Maryam Nawaz expressed hope that the people of Punjab would use this time to relax, rejuvenate, and spend the break in a positive and enjoyable manner.
The announcement has been welcomed by citizens, who are expected to make the most of the extended holidays across the province.
Meanwhile, the preparations for Basant have begun in Lahore, with the sale of kites and string officially starting from today.
Authorities have allowed 2,246 traders to conduct sales across Lahore.
The buying and selling of kites and related items has been permitted from February 1 to February 8, after which a complete ban on the manufacturing and sale of kites will come into effect.
As sales began, a large number of citizens flocked to markets to purchase Basant supplies in the walled city of Lahore.
