KARACHI (Dunya News) – The Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) has called for a judicial commission to investigate the tragic Gul Plaza fire.

In a statement, KCCI President Rehan Hanif emphasized the need to address critical questions surrounding the disaster, particularly regarding the fire safety measures in place, the building’s emergency exits, and the capabilities of the fire brigade.

Hanif raised concerns about whether the fire brigade had the necessary equipment and resources to tackle such a massive fire, and whether the firemen were adequately equipped with the required kits and tools.

The Chamber also highlighted the need for the establishment of a dedicated fund to support the victims of the Gul Plaza incident.

Hanif stated that such a fund would facilitate the recovery and compensation process for those affected, helping to mitigate the losses sustained by the victims.

Meanwhile, it took firefighters more than 33 hours to bring the Gul Plaza fire under control which claimed 14 lives and injured 30 people, 11 of them seriously, with the fate of dozens of trapped people unknown.
