KARACHI (Dunya News) - Jamaat-e-Islami has announced a protest in Karachi today against the rising number of deaths caused by dumpers and water tankers accidents in the city.

Speaking to the media, JI Karachi chief Munam Zafar Khan said that dumpers and tankers have become a serious threat to citizens’ lives. He stated that the growing number of traffic accidents involving heavy vehicles has turned daily travel into a life-threatening ordeal for residents, with families repeatedly forced to mourn the loss of loved ones.

Munam Zafar Khan said the deaths caused by reckless driving of dumpers and tankers show no sign of stopping, while authorities have failed to ensure public safety. He also criticised what he described as “loot and plunder” in the name of e-challans, saying citizens are being unfairly penalised instead of dangerous transport practices being addressed.

He announced that Jamaat-e-Islami will stage a sit-in at Numaish Chowrangi at 5:00 pm today to protest against both the deadly tanker and dumper operations and the misuse of the e-challan system.

Highlighting Karachi’s deteriorating infrastructure, the JI leader said the city has become increasingly unsafe, with nearly half of its areas facing severe water shortages. He added that the water crisis has further empowered the tanker mafia, worsening the situation for ordinary citizens.

Munam Zafar Khan demanded an immediate end to what he called “blood-soaked tankers” and urged the authorities to ensure clean water supply through pipelines. He reaffirmed Jamaat-e-Islami’s support for the affected families and vowed to continue the struggle for the protection of citizens’ lives and property.
