Pakistan awards its highest civilian honour to Indonesia’s President Abowo Subianto during a high-level ceremony in Islamabad.
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Pakistan has conferred its highest civilian honour, the Nishan-e-Pakistan, upon Indonesia’s President Abowo Subianto during a special ceremony held at Aiwan-e-Sadr in Islamabad.
Tuesday’s event brought together the country’s top leadership, marking a significant moment in Pakistan-Indonesia relations. President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, the Chairman Senate, the Speaker of the National Assembly and senior military commanders attended the ceremony.
The formal ceremony celebrated the strengthening of historic bilateral ties as President Zardari presented the Nishan-e-Pakistan to President Subianto. Earlier, the two leaders held a detailed meeting, exchanging views on long-standing relations between the two nations. Both sides expressed full agreement on shared values and decades-long goodwill, reaffirming their intention to enhance cooperation for peace, stability and prosperity.

President Zardari conveyed deep sorrow over the recent floods and landslides in Sumatra, offering prayers for the victims and wishing a swift recovery for those injured. The expression of solidarity underscored Pakistan’s support for Indonesia during humanitarian crises.
During the discussions, both presidents reiterated their commitment to promoting interfaith harmony and tolerance. They agreed to shape future partnerships around principles of inclusive development. Satisfaction was expressed over the rise in bilateral trade, with emphasis placed on maintaining trade balance and expanding sector-to-sector engagement.
The leaders described the Pakistan-Indonesia Joint Trade Committee as an effective platform for advancing business-to-business linkages. They also agreed to strengthen cooperation in information technology, agriculture, energy and tourism. Joint efforts on climate change, disaster management and sustainable development were highlighted as essential areas for future collaboration.

Both sides agreed to deepen defence cooperation, including training and possible joint production initiatives. Pakistan and Indonesia also reiterated their resolve to collectively counter Islamophobia and promote understanding at the global level. President Zardari underscored the urgent need for peace and development across the region.
President Subianto was also briefed on the latest situation in Indian-occupied Jammu and Kashmir. Ministers, senior officials and military leadership from both countries attended an expanded meeting, which further discussed strategic cooperation. A formal state dinner was hosted at Aiwan-e-Sadr in honour of the visiting Indonesian president.
