RAWALPINDI (Dunya News) – Chief of Awami Muslim League and former federal interior minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed has said that the people of the country are distressed by inflation and unemployment, and the poor are suffering miserably.

Speaking to the media after appearing before the Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC), Ahmed said that the next hearing of the GHQ case is scheduled for the 17th, and the condition of all the cases is evident to everyone. “I wasn’t even in Pakistan, yet cases were made against me,” he added.

He said that his nephew, who has never even seen Faisalabad, has been sentenced to forty years, and an order for confiscation of property has also been issued.

He stated that people are burdened by inflation and unemployment, and the poor are dying. “Because of extreme poverty, parents are withdrawing their children from schools and colleges. We even made announcements in mosques urging people to educate their daughters. Today, there are more people willing to teach but fewer students left to study.”

The former federal minister appealed to parents to educate their daughters. “We have worked hard, but the number of colleges has fallen so much that they barely seem like colleges anymore. Send your children to study — if you face any issue, contact Lal Haveli,” he added.
