ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Chairman Pakistan Kisan Ittehad Khalid Hussain on Thursday announced that farmers will not grow cotton next year due to unbearable production costs, Dunya News reported.
He said that Pakistan's cotton production has declined 2 billion bales this year. He said that cotton prices have caused severe financial losses to farmers. “Our cost of production has increased by several hundred percent, and there is no profit in any crop,” he said.
Speaking at a press conference in the federal capital, Islamabad, Khalid Hussain Bath, said that the price of sugarcane is the biggest issue for farmers and added that sugar mills in Sindh have still not started crushing, despite the official start of the crushing season.
Khalid Hussain said that 50 to 60 percent of the sugar mills in Punjab have also not started the crushing. He regretted that there is no one to hold the sugar mill owners accountable.
