GILGIT-BALTISTAN (Dunya News) – The five-year constitutional term of the current Gilgit-Baltistan government ended today.

All ministers, advisers and coordinators have been de-notified, and a notification under the caretaker government provisions has been issued. The notification, effective from 24 November 2025, was issued by the GB Assembly Secretariat under Section 56(5) and signed by Secretary Law and Prosecution Sajjad Haider. It has been circulated to all government offices and administrative authorities.

Meanwhile, the summary for the appointment of the caretaker chief minister has been forwarded, with the announcement expected tomorrow. Once the caretaker chief minister is appointed, the new caretaker cabinet will also be announced by the outgoing chief minister. With the expiry of the government’s term, the cabinet stands dissolved and Chief Minister Gulbar Khan will step down.

The opposition stated that, under the law, the caretaker setup is responsible for conducting free and impartial elections in the region. They added that adequate efforts were not made to address public issues and that the caretaker administration must remain completely neutral.

Earlier, the Election Commission also reiterated that the upcoming elections will be held strictly according to the constitutional schedule.
