Pakistan
Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry said that constitutional amendments fall solely within Parliament’s authority, describing recent judicial resignations as political
FAISALABAD (Dunya News) - Minister of State for Interior Senator Talal Chaudhry said that the constitutional amendments are the prerogative of Parliament, adding that the recent resignations by judges were ‘political’.
He remarked that some individuals had previously reduced Parliament to the level of a municipal corporation.
Addressing a press conference in Faisalabad on Sunday, Talal Chaudhry said that the country’s constitution will reflect the will of Parliament and the people.
He added that the Supreme Court in the past had ousted the elected governments through suo motu actions despite the fact that it was not the judiciary’s domain.
He stated that the government took an exemplary step through the 27th Constitutional Amendment to curb political victimisation, and further amendments would be introduced if required for national stability.

He added that those who boycott elections lack the capability to engage in political competition.
Talking about the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa affairs, he said that Chief Minister Sohail Afridi will remain in office as long as he performs his provincial duties.
If Afridi chooses a different path, the federal government has constitutional options available.
