LONDON (Dunya News) - Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz reached London on late Friday night after attending the COP30 Conference in Brazil in Belem, Brazil, Dunya News reported.
According to sources, Maryam Nawaz will stay in London for one day before her departure for Pakistan. Maryam Nawaz stayed in Brazil for five days in connection with the COP30 conference.
During her address at the COP30 conference, Maryam Nawaz stressed the need for collective efforts to combat climate change.
She said Punjab – the land of five rivers – is utilising modern technology to tackle environmental challenges. Under the Suthra Punjab (Clean Punjab) initiative, cleanliness in every street and neighbourhood is being ensured.
The chief minister added that all industries and brick kilns causing pollution are being strictly monitored. The provincial government is taking significant measures to protect wildlife and forests, with special emphasis on large-scale tree plantation campaigns.
Maryam Nawaz highlighted that it is impossible to address climate change without preserving forests. Transparency and merit are being ensured across all sectors, while drone technology is being used to monitor forest protection efforts.
She further said that modern technology is being employed to safeguard wildlife, and the vision of a “Green and Digital Punjab” is being realized through the promotion of electric vehicles and e-bikes.
In addition to attending the COP30 conference, she also held important meetings. Punjab Chief Minister met with Valerie Hickey, Global Director of the World Bank’s Climate Change Group, on the sidelines of the COP30 Conference.
The meeting centered on enhancing collaboration for environmental sustainability, climate resilience, and green growth initiatives in Punjab.
