KARACHI (Dunya News) - Dr Shahid Rasul, the Executive Director of Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) passed away on Friday at the age of 59.

People knew Dr Rasul as a skilled doctor and educator. He also acted as Pakistan's international adviser to the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow. Colleagues saw him as a forward-thinking leader. He spent his professional life focusing on public health efforts, training in medicine, and caring for patients.
Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah expressed profound sorrow over his passing, saying Dr Rasul would “always be remembered for his remarkable services.” In a statement issued by CM House, spokesperson Abdul Rasheed Channa quoted the chief minister as describing him as “one of the best surgeons in the country.”
Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon described Shahid Rasul’s passing as an irreplaceable blow. He praised Dr Rasul as a gifted and dedicated doctor with a kind heart. Throughout his life, the surgeon committed himself to research and helping patients.
Health Minister Dr Azra Pechuho echoed the sentiments, noting that she was “deeply saddened” by his sudden death. She said Dr Rasul led JPMC with “dedication, compassion and an unwavering commitment to serving people from across Pakistan,” particularly those dependent on public hospitals.
Dr Pechuho added that his contributions had left a lasting imprint on medical education and public health. She extended heartfelt condolences to his family, colleagues and the JPMC community, praying for strength for the bereaved.
