LAHORE (Dunya News) - Lahore continues to struggle with high levels of air pollution, ranking as the second most polluted city in the world, according to global environmental monitoring sources.
The Air Quality Index (AQI) in the provincial capital reached 455, with certain areas recording critically high levels: Ravi Road at 855, Punjab University vicinity 742, Model Town 682, and Sanda Road 618.
Other cities in Punjab are also facing alarming air pollution. Bahawalpur recorded an AQI of 620, Multan 571, Faisalabad 418, and Gujranwala 340. In comparison, Delhi, India, currently holds the title of the world’s most polluted city, with an AQI of 761.
According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department, Lahore’s temperatures ranged between 12°C and 26°C, with 65% humidity and wind speeds of 5 km/h.
Health experts have warned that the persistent rise in pollution levels poses a serious health risk to citizens. Residents are advised to avoid unnecessary travel, use protective masks, and limit outdoor activities in the early morning hours when pollution levels tend to spike.
Authorities continue to monitor air quality closely, urging residents to take precautionary measures as pollution levels remain critically high.
