University Road in Karachi will be closed from Nepa Chowrangi to Federal Urdu University until Dec 30 for water line work, worsening traffic, delays, and safety issues for students
KARACHI (Dunya News) – University Road, one of Karachi’s major thoroughfares, will remain closed from Nepa Chowrangi to Federal Urdu University from November 10 to December 30 due to water line installation work under the Water and Sewerage Improvement Project (KWSSIP).
Officials said the road closure is part of the project’s first phase, which involves laying pipelines up to Federal Urdu University, while the second phase will cover the stretch from Hasan Square to Nepa Chowrangi. Traffic from Nepa Chowrangi will be redirected toward Aladin Park, according to KWSSIP authorities.
The ongoing Red Line construction along University Road has already caused major difficulties for Karachi residents, forcing long commutes to stretch from minutes to hours.
Earlier, a burst water line during construction disrupted supply in several areas, compelling residents to purchase water from tankers.
The area is home to three major universities—Karachi University, NED University, and Federal Urdu University—and students have reported increased accidents and difficulties crossing the road safely. Students urged the government to expedite the project and ensure timely completion.
Authorities have assured that work is being carried out according to schedule, though citizens continue to face traffic congestion, dust, and delays in their daily commutes.
