KARACHI (Dunya News) - Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F) Chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman held an important meeting with President Asif Ali Zardari and Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari at Bilawal House in Karachi on Saturday.

According to PPP sources, the JUI-F leader arrived at Bilawal House along with a delegation to discuss matters related to the proposed 27th Constitutional Amendment.

Maulana Rashid Soomro, Mufti Ibrar Ahmed, and other party members accompanied Fazlur Rehman during the meeting.

Sources added that the leaders exchanged views on the country’s overall political situation as well as developments concerning the 27th Amendment.

Earlier in the day, the 27th Constitutional Amendment Bill was formally introduced in the Senate, where Chairman Yousuf Raza Gilani referred it to the Standing Committee on Law and Justice for detailed review.

27th Amendment Bill tabled in Senate amid opposition's reservations

During the Senate session, Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar presented the bill and proposed suspending routine proceedings to allow its introduction — a motion approved by the chair.

Tarar stated that the bill would now be reviewed by a joint parliamentary committee comprising members of both the National Assembly and the Senate, emphasising that no immediate vote would be held and that opposition input would be sought before moving forward.

Chairman Gilani urged opposition lawmakers to participate actively in committee discussions, confirming that the bill had been formally referred to the Law and Justice Committee.
