Constitutional amendment: federal cabinet meeting postponed

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – The meeting of the federal cabinet scheduled for today (Friday) under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to consider 27th amendment to the constitution has been postponed.
The members of the cabinet have formally been notified that the meeting has been postponed.
The cabinet was to discuss and approve the draft of the amendment.
According to sources, the reasons for the postponement have not yet been disclosed. The new date for the meeting is expected to be announced shortly.
The government wants significant changes to five key articles – 160 (3A), 191A, 213, 243, and a new article related to judicial restructuring of the Constitution, according to sources.
A day ago, Prime Minister Shehbaz met with coalition partners the PPP, the MQM-P and others to allay their fears regarding the proposed amendments.

The Muttahida Qaumi Movement Pakistan (MQM-P) has urged Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to empower local governments under the proposed 27th constitutional amendment, as promised earlier.
