Punjab CM reviews flood situation, vows swift relief and rehabilitation.
JHANG (Dunya News) – Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz visited flood-affected areas in Jhang, reaching the Trimmu Barrage to assess the on-ground situation.
She was briefed at the SCADA control room by Commissioner Faisalabad Raja Jahangir Anwar and Deputy Commissioner Ali Akbar regarding the ongoing flood conditions.
Officials informed the CM that Trimmu Barrage witnessed the largest flood discharge in recorded history. Timely preventive measures not only protected Multan but also other regions from major damage. In Jhang alone, a preemptive evacuation of approximately 298,000 residents was carried out before the floodwaters arrived.
Moreover, around 119,000 livestock were relocated to safer areas ahead of the flood. Authorities are providing fodder and feed, while 102 livestock workers are visiting villages to offer care and medical treatment for the animals.
Officials also reported that 21 relief camps have been established in the district, currently housing about 750 displaced individuals. A total of 181 villages in Jhang have been affected by the flooding.
CM Maryam Nawaz instructed officials to expand the scope of the rescue operations to ensure no affected individual is left behind. She emphasized the use of advanced technologies, such as drones and thermal imaging cameras, to locate stranded victims efficiently.
Speaking at the scene, the Chief Minister stated, "We will deliver aid wherever help is needed. We are committed to ending Jhang's deprivation. God has entrusted us with the safety of our people."
She further declared, "Protecting human lives and populations from floods is my top priority. No interference will be allowed in technical operations like the breaching of safety embankments. I am proud of the Commissioner, the DC, and the entire team for their dedicated efforts."
