Five killed as GB govt helicopter crashes near Chilas

CHILAS (Dunya News) - All five aboard a helicopter belonging to the Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) government were killed when it crashed near Chilas on Monday.
According to GB government spokesperson Faizullah Faraq, the helicopter developed a technical fault and went down while attempting a test landing on a newly proposed helipad. Two pilots and three technical staff members were onboard the chopper, he added.
Diamer Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Abdul Hameed issued a statement confirming deaths in the crash.
He, however, said the cause of the crash was yet to be ascertained, as the GB government spokesperson cited a technical fault.
GB Chief Minister expressed sorrow over the incident and directed authorities to immediately reach the site.
Following the crash, FCNA Commander, DG GB Scouts, Commissioner Diamer, and a large number of locals rushed to the scene, while rescue teams are working to extinguish the fire that broke out in the helicopter.
