Tarbela Dam spillways opened after rise in water level

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – The spillways of Tarbela Dam have been opened in the wake of rising level of water, Dunya News reported here on Saturday.

According to the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), the opening of the spillways is expected to result in a water flow of up to 250,000 cusecs.

Authorities have issued a warning, advising residents of nearby areas to avoid going near the riverbanks of the Indus River due to the potential increase in water flow.

NDMA has informed all relevant departments in advance and has urged residents of low-lying areas to remain cautious and cooperate with the local administration.
Earlier, the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Punjab has stated that the Indus River is experiencing low-level flooding at Chashma Barrage.

According to PDMA, the water level at Tarbela Dam has reached 1546.00 feet and is 96% full, while Mangla Dam stands at 1205.25 feet, being 63% full. The Indus River is facing low-level flooding at Chashma Barrage, whereas the flow at Tarbela, Kalabagh, Taunsa, Guddu, Sukkur, and Kotri barrages remains normal.
