The incident occurred less than a day after the same leopard had fatally mauled a girl
MUZAFFARABAD (Web Desk) – A teenage boy had a narrow escape on Sunday afternoon after being attacked by a leopard in Nalai Dabra’n, a border village in the Jhelum Valley district of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).
The incident occurred less than a day after the same leopard had fatally mauled an eight-year-old girl in the same area.
The victim, identified as 10th-grade student Mudassir Ali Awan, was on his way home after attending the funeral of the young girl when the leopard suddenly attacked him. In a desperate bid to survive, he screamed for help and resisted the animal. His cries alerted nearby villagers, who quickly gathered, creating noise and throwing stones and sticks at the predator, eventually forcing it to retreat into the forest.
Though Mudassir suffered only light injuries and bruises, his clothes were torn during the horrifying incident, leaving the local community shaken.
Just a day before, the same wild animal had snatched a little girl from her house’s courtyard and dragged her into the forest. Her mutilated body was discovered hours later.
The child's death has triggered widespread anger and fear among locals, who accuse the authorities of negligence, especially after multiple encounters with wild animals in populated areas.
Local journalists had also raised concerns on July 24 via social media, highlighting the growing threat of leopard sightings in residential areas and calling for urgent intervention. However, no action was taken.
