ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Former foreign secretary Shamshad Ahmad has stated that the US involvement in Pakistan is both deep and longstanding.

Speaking at Dunya News Programme ‘Baat Niklay Gi’, he said that after 9/11, former army chief Pervez Musharraf became the favourite of the US.

He credited Nawaz Sharif for Pakistan’s nuclear tests, claiming that even members of his own party and Gen Jahangir opposed it and warned of consequences.

He revealed that during the Chaklala meeting, both Musharraf and Nawaz Sharif were willing to surrender and a decision was made to withdraw forces.

On Oct 12, after the military takeover, he contacted the Saudi Crown Prince to ensure Nawaz Sharif’s safety, which was assured.
