KARACHI (Dunya News) – Sindh Home Minister Zia Lanjhar revealed that Dr Shahnawaz was killed in a staged police encounter in Umerkot.

Speaking at a press conference along with the Sindh IG, the minister stated the investigations confirmed the encounter was fake. A 31-page report of detailed police misconduct has been prepared and an FIR will be filed against the responsible officers.

Lanjhar emphasised the government’s duty to protect citizens and assured Dr Shahnawaz’s family that justice would be served.

The Sindh chief minister is expected to announce compensation for the family, while six FIRs have already been registered, with investigations ongoing.

It is pertinent to mentioned that a case under relevant sections of the Anti-Terrorism Act (ATA) had been registered at the Umerkot police station against a mob of around 35 people on Tuesday over burning of blasphemy suspect Dr Shahnawaz Kunbhar’s body.
