ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) president and former prime minister Nawaz Sharif has left for Lahore after the government failed to table proposed constitutional amendment bill in the National Assembly (NA) on Sunday, Dunya News reported.

According to party sources, Nawaz Sharif left for Lahore soon after the National Assembly was adjourned but added that he will return to Islamabad in case of voting on constitutional amendments today (Monday).

Earlier, Speaker National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq on Sunday adjourned the session to meet again today (Monday) at 12:30 pm. The session was adjourned without moving the much-talked about constitutional amendment bill in the House.

Defense Minister Khawaja Asif while talking to media, after the National Assembly session was adjourned, said that the required numbers (224 votes) for the constitutional amendment had not been achieved.

He said that the government is engaged with political parties to develop consensus. However, Khawaja Asif admitted that JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman had not agreed to the government’s proposals.
