SJC allows Mazahar Naqvi to cross-examine witnesses
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Continuing its ongoing proceedings against Mazahar Ali Akbar Naqvi, a former judge of the apex court, the Supreme Judicial Council recorded the statements of seven witnesses on Thursday.
During the proceedings, Chief Justice of Pakistan Qazi Faez Isa remarked that the Supreme Judicial Council would not reach any decision until the Supreme Court's decisions were made. He also stated that upon Mazhar Naqvi's request, the SJC proceedings were open to the public.
The SJC is scheduled to record the statements of four more witnesses on Friday.
According to the SJC, Mazhar Naqvi informed the registrar through a letter that he had withdrawn his lawyer Khawaja Haris. The SJC has granted Naqvi permission to cross-examine any witness.
The Supreme Judicial Council clarified that anyone can cross-examine a witness during its proceedings.
During Thursday’s proceedings, no one cross-examined the witnesses. The SJC has adjourned further hearing until Friday morning.
