ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Barrister Gohar Ali Khan claimed on Saturday that his party had secured majority to form government in the Centre, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

“Inshallah, we will also make government in Punjab as we are close to achieving majority,” he stated this while addressing a press conference along with other PTI leaders.

He said the PTI had won 170 National Assembly seats, adding that his party was leading with 94 seats in results declared by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP). “We have two-thirds majority in KP.”

Congratulating the public over massive turnout, he also slammed former prime minister Nawaz Sharif for his claim that the PML-N had emerged as the largest party in the country.

Expressing concern over delay in issuances of results, Barrister Gohar said the ECP had failed to perform its legal and constitutional responsibilities.

He urged the judiciary and the ECP to play their role for upholding democracy in the country. “It is the beauty of democracy that people use their votes to elect their representatives."

The PTI stalwart warned that imposing a government and suppressing public voice would cast negative impression and hit the already shaky economy.

He asked the ECP to declare complete results till 12pm tonight, otherwise protests would be held against it. He also urged people to hold peaceful protests by holding the Pakistan flags only.

In a dramatic turn of events, independent candidates backed by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) have emerged as frontrunners in the 2024 general elections.

Preliminary results, subject to verification and confirmation, indicate that independent candidates — many of whom are supported by the PTI — have secured the majority of national constituencies across the country.

Out of the total 265 National Assembly seats, provisional results from 253 constituencies have been received so far.

As per unofficial results, PTI-backed independents have emerged victorious in 100 constituencies, followed by the PML-N with 72 seats.
