LAHORE (Dunya News) - Shab-e-Meraj was observed across the country on Wednesday night with religious fervor, great respect and devotion. Shab-e-Meraj is a holy night for the Muslims as it’s a night when the Holy Prophet (PBUH) ascended to the highest levels of Heavens.

The faithful gathered at mosques in great numbers after Isha and offered special prayers that continued till Fajr. Religious scholars in their sermons highlighted the importance of the night and its blessings. They also highlighted teachings and various aspects of the life of the Holy Prophet (PBUH).

Besides mosques, houses and streets were decorated with colorful buntings. Women spent night while praying at their homes.

The Muslims every year observe the Shab-e-Meraj on 27th of Rajab (Islamic calendar), the night the Holy Prophet (PBUH) embarked on a special journey to meet Allah Almighty, crossing seven skies riding the heavenly ‘al-Buraq’.

The word Meraj is derived from Arabic word Urooj, which means height, or ascension. During Meraj, the command for five daily prayers (Salat) was also given to the Holy Prophet (PBUH).
