ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Tuesday filed a review petition in the Supreme Court against its earlier ruling withdrawing the bat symbol from the party for not holding intra-party polls in line with constitution.

Senior lawyers Hamid Khan and Barrister Ali Zafar filed the petition. The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) and complainants in the high court have been made party in the petition.

The PTI took the stance in the application that the intra-party elections were conducted as per party's constitution and the ECP had no power to review the same.

It was further stated in the petition that the Supreme Court had not examined the facts on merit. It stated that withdrawing electoral symbol from a political party was against the fundamental rights of voters.

Constitution of Pakistan gave every person the right to form a political party and take part in elections, the petition added.

The PTI said by withdrawing the bat symbol from the party, the apex court misused its authority. The party also prayed to court to declare ECP's decision to withdraw electoral symbol from the party null and void.

It also prayed to the Supreme Court to review its decision and restore ruling of the Peshawar High Court.  The PTI has requested court to review its Jan 13 judgement on intra-party elections.
