Vote counting under way as polling concludes in Sindh for vacant LG seats

KARACHI (Dunya News) – The counting of votes is under way as polling concluded in local bodies seats in 16 districts of Sindh on Sunday.

The polling started at 8:00am and concluded at 5:00pm without break.

The Election Commission has set up a control room to monitor the election process. The control room, which will remain functional till Monday, will address the grievances and complaints.

Meanwhile, 266,686 registered voters will exercise their right to franchise in 182 polling stations set up across the province. A total 116 candidates have been contesting on various seats of 26 union councils.

In Karachi, 54 candidates belonging to the People’s Party (PPP), the Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) and the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) have been facing each other on 9 seats of chairman, vice chairman and general member.

It may be recalled that elections are being held for the office of chairman in Malir, Kemari, South, while polling is going on for the vice chairman seats in Malir and South. Elections are being held on the seats of ward members in Malir, districts East and Central.

All 121 polling stations set up in the metropolis have been declared sensitive and extra security arrangements have been made to hold polling peacefully.
