Kakar assures them of clearing ad dues
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaarul Haq Kakar, while talking to a delegation of newly-elected office-bearers of the Pakistan Broadcasters Association (PBA) here on Thursday, emphasised that it is the state's responsibility to protect the rights of media representatives.
The PBA delegation comprised Chairman Shakeel Masud from DawnNews (TV), Secretary-General Mian Amer Mahmood (Chairman of Dunya Media Group), Senior Vice Chairman Mir Ibrahim Rehman and PBA office-bearer Tahir Khan.
During the meeting, matters relating to media, especially electronic media, came under discussion.
The PBA delegation informed the prime minister about the issue of outstanding dues on account of government advertisements.
PM Kakar assured the delegates of payment of advertisement dues and directed the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting to resolve the issue promptly.
Highlighting the significance of media, the prime minister emphasised that being the fourth pillar of the state, media played a crucial role in the development of society as well as in the intellectual training of the people.
He also highlighted the media's importance in promoting good governance and government accountability, saying that through effective and coordinated communication between the government and media, the public could stay informed about government policies and initiatives.
PM Kakar expressed hope that the media would continue to fulfill its role in supporting democracy through impartial reporting.
He also urged the PBA delegates to increase public awareness through media about the importance of the economic stabilisation strategy under the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC).
The prime minister noted that recent measures, such as the devaluation of the dollar against the Pakistani rupee, prevention of smuggling and measures against electricity theft were benefiting the common man.

Caretaker Minister for Information and Broadcasting Murtaza Solangi was also present.
