ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - Polling for the the annual elections of the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) is under way.

A tough contest is expected between the Hamid Khan and Asma Jahangir groups. 

In this highly anticipated electoral battle, Mian Abdul Qadus is the candidate for the president’s position from Hamid Khan group, while Asma Jahangir group has fielded Shahzad Shaukat as its candidate for the coveted slot. 

A total of 21 candidates are in the run for eight different slots of the body. The polling will end at 5pm in the evening. 

As many as 3,756 lawyers will use their right to vote in the elections - 1,348 lawyers from Lahore, 678 from Islamabad and Rawalpindi, 243 from Multan and 114 black coats from Bahawalpur will cast their vote.

Both candidates vying for president slot hail from Lahore. Eleven candidate are contesting elections for four seats of vice president. For secretary slot, Syed Ali Imran and Salman Mansoor are in the field. 

Muhammad Aurangzeb and Sardar Shehbaz Khosa are the candidates for additional secretary slot. For finance secretary slot, three candidates Ali Ahmad Rana, Riaz Hussain and Riffat Islam are in the run.

The returning officer will announce winning candidates on Nov 3.
