Train service suspended after bridge collapses in Lahore
LAHORE (Dunya News) – A pillar of the railway bridge near Shahdara has collapsed, leading to an immediate suspension of train operation.
According to the Railways spokesperson, railway staff reached the site after receiving timely information. Efforts to restore the bridge commenced promptly, said the spokesperson.
“The Railway Divisional Officer (CO Lahore) and Divisional Superintendent Lahore, among others, are present at the scene, working tirelessly to expedite the bridge's restoration. It is expected that normal traffic on the bridge will resume within 72 hours. During this period, trains are being rerouted via the mainline and diverted through the Abbottabad route,” said the statement.
After the incident, the Mardan Express running between Lahore and Kundian, as well as the Badar and Ghouri Express operating between Faisalabad and Lahore, have been temporarily cancelled.
The Karachi-Lahore Express has been rerouted via Sahiwal, while changes have also been made to the Shalimar and Minwali Express routes.
