IHC rejects DC’s unconditional apology in contempt case

ISLAMABAD (APP) - The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Thursday rejected the unconditional apology from Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) Deputy Commissioner Irfan Memon in a contempt case filed against him and others pertaining to the issuance of MPO orders in connection with the arrest of PTI leader Shehryar Afridi.

IHC’s Justice Babar Sattar instructed the prosecution to prepare a schedule of further proceedings in the case.

At the outset of proceedings, DC Irfan Memon, SSP Operations Jameel Zafar and others appeared before the court.

When DC Memon extended unconditional apology, the court, while expressing annoyance, asked that why not a show-cause notice should be served on him as he was trying to approach the judge through family and friends.

Upon this, the deputy commissioner assured that he never tried to approach the judge.

The court rejected the ICT DC’s unconditional apology, observing that the apology with such conduct wouldn’t benefit him.

The court remarked that the case would be heard as per the law, and asked the respondents to focus on the legal points of the case.
