The CJP issued the warning during hearing of a case when a lawyer sought adjournment

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Qazi Faez Isa has issued a stern warning to those who habitually seek adjournments.

“Mind it, from now on, no more adjournments,” he averred.

The chief justice issued the warning during the hearing of a property dispute on Monday when one of the lawyers sought adjournment.

The chief justice, who was heading a three-member bench, admonished the lawyer and rejected his plea for an adjournment.

CJP Isa remarked that there was a huge backlog of cases awaiting decision in the Supreme Court. He observed that from now onward, a notice would be issued to the parties and a decision would be announced after arguments on the next hearing.

The chief justice said it was a practice in other courts that time was sought for submission of documents. “This is Supreme Court, it is the apex court where all the judgements of the cases are already recorded. When a case is filed before the Supreme Court, the paperwork should have been completed,” the CJP continued.

He warned that the arguments should also be given in one go. “Improve your Urdu or English language [so that there’s no ambiguity while arguing your case],” Chief Justice Isa concluded.
