Supreme Court dismisses allegations of misconduct against former CJP Umar Ata Bandial, Justice Ahsan
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - The Supreme Court has rejected allegations of misconduct levelled against former Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial and senior judge Justice Ijazul Ahsan, deeming them without merit.
According to insiders, Supreme Court's Justice Sardar Tariq Masood dismissed the complaints which were filed by citizens in the top court.
In his legal opinion in both cases, Justice Masood found no grounds to substantiate the allegations against the respected judges.
It is to be recalled that another complaint was filed in the Supreme Judicial Council against four judges of the Supreme Court, including former Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial, over alleged misconduct.
Advocate Sardar Salman lodged the complaint against the CJP, Justice Munib Akhtar, Justice Ijazul Ahsan and Justice Mazahar Ali Akbar Naqvi, claiming that the jurists had violated the Article 209 of the Constitution.
The complainant requested the SJC to remove the chief justice and other three judges from their positions and sent the copies of complaint to all members of the council.
The development came as the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM), the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz, the Pakistan Peoples Party and other parties were openly demanding the resignation of the country’s top judge following a verdict on elections in Punjab.
