It was unfair to restrict the PTI chairman from having the facility, the lawyer told court

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – A Special Court set up under the Official Secrets Act has sought a report from the superintendent of Attock Jail for not arranging a telephonic conversation of the PTI chairman with his sons.

PTI chief’s counsel Shiraz Ranjha told the court that his client had not yet been convicted in the cipher case.

He argued that the ex-prime minister was in Attock Jail on judicial remand. The Official Secrets Act or the Punjab Jail Laws were applicable to the criminals while the former prime minister was still not guilty in the case, he added.

Advocate Ranjha said all the accused had the facility of telephonic conversation with their family members. They have been enjoying the facility for the last three years.

It was unfair to restrict the PTI chairman from having the facility, he continued.

The PTI lawyer requested the court to take contempt of court action against the Attock Jail superintendent and sought adjournment of the case till Sept 26.

Judge Abual Hasnat Zulqarnain wrote the verdict in the open court. PTI lawyer Shiraz Ranjha requested to adjourn the hearing till Sept 26.

The judge said the judicial remand of the PTI chairman would complete on Sept 26. He said he would talk to the jailer himself.

Later, the judge adjourned the hearing for Sept 28.
