Chimpanzee, named as Raju, was sick, but doctor denied it
KARACHI (Web Desk) – A young chimpanzee at Karachi's Zoological Garden died on Monday of cardiac arrest.
Media reported that the sixteen-year-old chimpanzee, named Raju, was sick and his treatment was on. Raju had been living with two other mates for four to five months, reports said.
The zoo administration denied that Raju was sick, claiming it had a sudden death due to a heart attack.
“He wasn’t sick at all and was seen very much active two hours before passing away,” zoo veterinarian Dr Amir Ismail said, adding that Raju was 26 to 27 years old.
Dr Ismail said a postmortem examination had shown that the chimp had died of a heart attack and that his other vital organs were in normal condition.
He said Raju wasn’t having any signs of any heart-related ailment. The zoo, he said, was now left with two female chimps.
Raju had been transferred to the zoo from Safari Park in 2014 following the death of his mate, Babli who died of acute pneumonia within a few months of their arrival at the facility in 2013. -
