LAHORE (Dunya News) – The Lahore High Court (LHC) has directed the Punjab chief secretary (CS) to submit a reply in connection with a petition challenging a plan to install a flag costing Rs400 million.
LHC judge Justice Raheel Kamran heard a petition submitted by a citizen, Aamir Sikandar, and asked the CS to submit a detailed report on it.
The counsel for the petitioner argued that the country was facing an economic crunch and the federal government secured loan from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and friendly countries. At the same time, he said, the Punjab caretaker government "announced Rs400 million" for hoisting a national flag at Liberty Market on the Independence Day.
He contended that spending a huge amount on the preparation of only a flag was tantamount to misusing public money. He asked the court to restrain the government from wasting public money on a frivolous venture.
The government lawyer apprised the court that no funds amounting to Rs400 million had been earmarked for the national flag on Independence Day.
