Says any attempts to delay the polls would deal more blows to the government

RAWALPINDI (Dunya News) – Awami Muslim League (AML) chief Sheikh Rashid Ahmed on Monday hit out at the ruling partners, stating that the PPP and the PML-N wanted to install a caretaker prime minister who would serve their interests.

Taking to Twitter, the former interior minister said the decision regarding the formation of the caretaker setup would not be an easy task. Lashing out at the ruling parties, he said they wanted to provide benefit to their relatives.

He said the caretaker PM could not get any powers, except for holding elections, without a constitutional amendment.

He also shared his two cents on reports that the PML-N had nominated Finance Minister Ishaq Dar for the caretaker PM slot. Such decisions would anger the International Monetary Fund (IMF), devalue local currency and delay elections in the country, he warned.

He said it was surprising that doctors in London advised former PM Nawaz Sharif to go to Saudi Arabi, the UAE and Dubai but barred him from visiting Pakistan. He said the PML-N supremo did not dare return despite holding diplomatic passport and government of his brother in the country.

The former minister said any attempt to delay the polls would serve more blows to the government. He said increased power tariff amid inflation would bury the politics of the ruling partners, adding that people had gone fed up with them. He said the public had defaulted owing to surging inflation.

He also called the government out for the distribution of new vehicles among the government officers. He said the next two weeks were crucial for political situation in Pakistan, adding that more difficulties were in store for the public.
