Says public is waiting for elections to get rid of government

RAWALPINDI (Dunya News) – Awami Muslim League (AML) chief Sheikh Rashid Ahmed said on Wednesday the nation was looking towards the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) for decision on upcoming general elections as there were no concrete indications that they would happen on time.

Taking to Twitter, the former interior minister said with just four weeks left for the completion of the assembly’s tenure, uncertainty hung heavy over elections. Public was confused whether the elections would be held on time or not.

He said the government had done nothing in the past 15 months that it would face the public. Slamming the government for record inflation, he said: “Those who buy flour wheat, pay bills, school fees of children and rent for house are fed up with the government and expressed their hatred openly”.

The people were just waiting for elections to get rid of the current government through vote, Mr Ahmed said while lamenting that court orders were being defied. He also slammed restrictions on media.

The AML chief said political workers were being treated like terrorists as dignity of anyone was not safe, adding that the ruling coalition was unable to understand the public feelings. He also warned of public outburst, saying no one would be able to control it.

Those who raise the slogan of sanctity of vote had humiliated the innocent voters, he said, adding that people were abducted from their houses and their voices were muzzled. He said “only one press conference can clear you in all matters”.
