Police claimed that women climbed the wall and jumped into the KPT ground to get the money
KARACHI (Dunya News) - Several women fainted and were injured at a distribution centre of the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) in Karachi on Monday.
The tragic incident happened due to stampede at the BISP centre at the Karachi Port Trust (KPT) ground.
According to the Keamari SSP, some of the women tried to climb the wall and jumped into the KPT ground to get the BISP amount. There was a stampede at the centre and several women fainted and were injured. Ambulances were dispatched to rescue the affected women and they were shifted to nearby hospitals.
Dr Sabir Memon, the head of the trauma centre, said most of the women fell unconscious due to suffocation. They were shifted to the Benazir Bhutto Trauma Centre and the first aid was being administered to the patients.
The funds' disbursement at the BISP centres earlier remained halted for two days due to intense heat in several parts of the country.
