Exams resume in Karachi as cyclone Biparjoy weakens

Commissioner orders the resumption of exams after the cyclone completed landfall in India's Gujrat

KARACHI (Dunya News) – As Biparjoy has weakened further in Sindh, the Karachi authorities has allowed the resumption of exams from Saturday (today).

After Cyclone Biparjoy hit India's Gujarat and weakened into a "severe cyclone", Karachi Commissioner Muhammad Iqbal Memon ordered the resumption of examinations and other educational activities from June 17.

Referring to an earlier notice issued on June 13 to cancel the said activities, the notification said, "Due to the reduction in the intensity of the cyclone, the risk of cyclone has reduced for Karachi Division."

Earlier today, Climate Change Minister Sherry Rehman said the cyclone had completed landfall in Gujarat, India.
"Pakistan was prepared but largely spared full force.

Sindh's coastal areas, such as Sujawal, were inundated by high sea levels, but most people were evacuated to safer places."

The minister also thanked all the authorities concerned for their "brilliant coordination effort".
