The families visited Gurdwara Darbar Sahib Kartarpur together

KARTARPUR (Web Desk) – Social media became the bridge to reunite siblings who had been separated amid partition, after 75 years at Kartarpur.

A man and his sister were overwhelmed by emotions as they embraced each other tightly, expressing profound sadness over the loss of their parents.

Mahendra Kaur, aged 81, along with her family members, had travelled from India to Gurdwara Darbar Sahib Kartarpur via the Kartarpur Corridor and her long-lost brother Sheikh Abdul Aziz, aged 78, arrived in Kartarpur with his family from Azad Kashmir.

During the partition in 1947, the family of Sardar Bhajan Singh, residing in Indian Punjab, tragically got separated. Aziz, after the partition, moved to Azad Kashmir but his other family members remained in India.

Aziz shared the distress he endured for years after being separated from his family. Despite tireless efforts to find them, he couldn't locate any leads. This heart-touching moment became possible through the power of social media.

Both families stumbled upon a social media post recounting the separation of a man and his sister during the partition. This post became the connection point, revealing that Mahendra and Aziz were indeed the estranged siblings.

The families visited Gurdwara Darbar Sahib Kartarpur together, sitting side by side and sharing a meal. They also exchanged gifts as a symbol of their long-awaited reunion.

Expressing gratitude for the Kartarpur Corridor project, Mahendra praised the government of Pakistan.
