SCBA opposes trial under Army Act
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – The Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) condemned on Thursday the May 9 violence, which included attacks on Jinnah House and military installations.
The SCBA stated in a statement, "The incidents of violence undermines the rule of law and also threats the national security of the country. The vandalism of historical buildings is an attempt to attack the identity of the country."
Stressing the importance of protecting military installations for the sake of national security, the SCBA said there was a dire need to maintain law and order in the country.
The SCBA opposed a trial under the Army Act and said, "The trial of rioters in a military court will be unconstitutional". However, a fair trial was also needed to bring the culprits to justice, the SCBA added.
