Imran Khan refuses to sign documents, denies crime

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan has been indicted in the Toshakhana case by the district and sessions court on Wednesday, adding to the troubles he has been facing since his arrest.

PTI's legal team boycotted court proceedings that were being held at the guest house of Police Lines headquarters at H-11, where Imran Khan was presented.

For security reasons, the commissioner's office has given the status of court to the Police Lines. Additional Sessions Judge Humayun Dilawar summoned Imran Khan in his personal capacity to indict him.

During the hearing, the court indicted Imran Khan in the Toshakhana case, but he (Imran) refused to sign the documents while denying the committing of crime.

It may be recalled that on the previous hearing, the court had rejected the pleas related to the admissibility and jurisdiction of the Toshakhana case.

Last year, lawmakers from the ruling coalition (PDM) filed a reference with the court regarding the alleged concealment of details of gifts by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan from Toshakhana. The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) had subsequently approached court on this matter, seeking criminal proceedings against Imran.

The reference accuses Imran of deliberately hiding information related to the gifts he retained from the Toshakhana during his tenure as the prime minister.

Earlier, Mr Khan had been arrested in connection with the Al-Qadir Trust case wherein he was accused to have committed corruption worth billions of rupees along with her wife.

Soon after his arrest, violent protests erupted across the country with four dead and 27 injured in Peshawar. Other citites including Lahore, Islamabad, Rawalpindi and Quetta have also been mired by protetsts with protesters buring and damaging public property.

In response to the violent protests, the Punjab and KP governments called in Pakistan Army to assist police and administration in maintaining law and order.
