Bill suggests six-month imprisonment, hefty fine
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – A bill penalising the "contempt" of the parliament is set to be tabled in the National Assembly on Tuesday, sources said.
Sources said that the bill, drafted by NA Standing Committee on Rules and Regulations Chairman Rana Qasim Noon, would authorise the parliament to summon any government official over its “contempt”. “Mr Noon will table the bill as a private member on Tuesday,” sources added.
A parliamentary committee comprising 24 members, with equal share from the treasury and from the opposition benches, would investigate the cases brought before it, sources said. “The committee will then suggest punishment that will be finalised by the leader of the house concerned,” sources added.
The bill suggested punishments of six-month imprisonment and hefty fine.
