PTI bid to win over America again
Pakistan
PTI Chairman Imran Khan has spoken to four US congressmen in a month.
(Web Desk) – Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief and former prime minister Imran Khan has contacted four US congressmen in a month seeking their support for his demand for free and fair elections in Pakistan.
According to the PTI’s US chapter, Imran has spoken to Ted Lieu, Eric Swalwell, Brad Sherman and Mike Levin — all Democrats — seemingly in a “bid to mend ties with Washington.”
Recently, the PTI held a rally outside the White House urging the Biden administration “not to deal with an extremely unpopular government, which has no moral justification for continuing to rule Pakistan.”
The campaign also shows PTI’s eagerness to persuade the Biden administration to forget the bitterness created by the conspiracy rhetoric of the party chief.
Adviser to the PTI Chairman for Overseas Affairs Atif Khan said that the party was trying to convey its message to the Biden administration to “help stop human rights violations, support rule of law and democratic values, and support the demand for transparent elections in Pakistan.”
It may be recalled that the PTI has recently engaged at least two paid lobbyists to mend their relations with the Biden administration. They are attempting to convince the White House that Imran Khan is not anti-America and he would mend relations with Washington if regained power.
Another Pakistani-American, Dr Asif Mahmood, who is also part of the PTI mission, told a media house that the party was endeavouring for free and fair elections in Pakistan and smooth transfer of power.
A physician by profession, Dr Asif took a delegation of legislators from California to Pakistan where they met PTI chief Imran Khan.
Dr Asif has close relations with Congressman Sherman, who sent a letter to Secretary of State Antony Blinken on Tuesday, voicing concerns over “democracy, human rights, and rule of law” violations in Pakistan.
